CastlevaniaĬastlevania as a series is easily one of the better games-to-tv/movie adaptations we've seen, but its third season proved that it has legs beyond just "Belmont/Alucard vs Dracula." Season 3 explored cosmic horror, introduced an unexpectedly compelling quest for revenge, and delved into the internal struggles of one cursed with everlasting life, and while that may read like its a bit much, the series weaves it all together with an expert hand, along with plenty of great winks, nods, and references for fans of the video game series. Some fans may lament the loss of so many classic supporting characters, but the emphasis on the big guns has its clear benefits. Yakko, Wakko, and Dot's misadventures are still a hoot, and the Pinky and the Brain segments help add just enough variety to keep each episode humming along. Despite the march of time and a flashier coat of paint, the new series plays remarkably similar to its predecessor.
